The new overcurrent and short-circuit detection and self tripping function of Sécheron’s AC vacuum circuit breaker MACS ensures autonomy in detecting, tripping and interrupting short circuits. This major innovation further enhances the vehicle safety, as it avoids dividing safety functions and responsibilities among several devices and stakeholders.
This innovation was presented for the first time on our stand at the Innotrans exhibition in 2022, and is now launched on the market, after having been implemented and tested on a pilot project.
This function requires an input from the current transformer measuring the vehicle’s input current. This signal can be provided either by Sécheron’s TMS current & voltage sensor, or by a usual individual current transformer. Two types of overcurrent detection are achieved through different thresholds and timings:
- Instantaneous maximum current / short-circuit detection
- RMS overcurrent detection
