Sécheron has just delivered the first AC MODBOX®-Mini for rail vehicles running on 15 kV networks. This enclosure has been designed and optimized to integrate a limited number of high voltage components in the most compact volume on the vehicle’s roof. It combines the AC circuit breaker type MACS and its’ earthing device, together with a voltage sensor type TMS and a current sensor.
Answering to recent market needs for this type of equipment, this new AC MODBOX®’ configuration for roof installation also integrates other innovations.
Roof installed AC MODBOX® are usually delivered with electrically operated earthing device, while this new configuration integrates the MACS with its manual earthing device, operated and locked from under the roof thanks to the convenient MED-M operating and interlocking device. Once the pantograph has been secured in its lowered position thanks to a pantograph interlocking device type BSV, the MED-M device can be actuated to ground the MACS.
For high voltage input and output cables, the AC MODBOX® has been equipped with high voltage bushings convenient to connect without opening the MODBOX.
The MACS operated in this AC MODBOX®-Mini as well as in the other AC MODBOX® can also be equipped with the newly released optional Point-on-Wave/Synchronous switching function to mitigate in a smart and efficient way against the potential inrush currents and switching transients during the opening and closing phases of the AC circuit breaker when the vehicle runs through neutral sections.
